The similar species C. sexpunctata is not distributed at low elevations, very rarely it has been observed just below 1000 m.s.n.m (Ratcliffe, 2003). In addition, there are several other species of this gene that share the same pattern and number of black spots or 'dots' on the elytra. The characteristic to determine that it is C. brittoni, the setae of a moderate to long length can be observed mainly around the pronotum, also around the head and the elytra, this characteristic difference from other possible species with the same color pattern and present at low elevations (also excluding C. sexpunctata which has very short setae).
